Our founder and owner, Mr. P. Kasirajan, belongs to a family of coffee powder makers in Kovilpatti. He came to Chennai for his SSLC school holiday in 1994 and visited his uncle's coffee making shop. He was fascinated by the aroma, the taste, and the process of making coffee. He decided to stay there and learn the art and science of coffee making from his uncle.

He worked hard and mastered the skills of choosing, roasting, grinding, and mixing the coffee beans. He dreamed of having his own coffee shop.

In 2002, he realized his dream and opened Saravana Degree Coffee in Kodambakkam. He wanted to offer the best coffee in the city, with a unique blend of 90% coffee and 10% chicory

He also found his soulmate, Mrs. Shanmugapriya, who was a school teacher. They got married in 2006 and she joined him in his coffee business. His wife’s arrival boosted the business. She was impressed by his dedication, passion, and customer service. She quit her teaching job and started supporting him in the business.

They had two lovely children, Bharadwaj and Madhushri, who grew up in the coffee shop. They were surrounded by the smell of coffee and the sound of coffee machines. They played with coffee beans and learned the secrets of coffee making from their father.

Our Products

The Story of Our Drinking Degree Coffee

In the beginning we sold coffee powder only. We claimed that our coffee powder was the best, but the customers wanted proof. They asked us to serve them coffee and let them judge for themselves. So, we began to sell drinking coffee as well. Our concept was: "Drink our coffee. If you like it, then buy our coffee powder." Customers tasted our coffee and liked it so much that they bought our coffee powder too. Since then, our drinking degree coffee sales have been running successfully along with our coffee powder sales.

The Story of Our Coffee Decoction

After we started selling drinking coffee along with Saravana Degree Coffee powder, we gained a lot of coffee lovers who enjoyed our coffee. They asked us to provide an option to make the simplest and easiest way to drink Saravana Degree Coffee at their home. So, we started selling Saravana Degree Coffee decoction. Many homemakers and coffee lovers started buying our Saravana Degree Coffee decoction. Now, our decoction sales are also successful along with our coffee powder and drinking coffee sales.

Like our coffee powder, we make our decoction only when the customer places an order. We do not add any preservatives to our decoction. Our decoction can last for 7 days without refrigeration and for one month if refrigerated.

Our Process

Choosing Seeds

We use only Arabica and Pl Peaberry coffee seeds from the finest regions of Chikmagalur, Kushalnagar, and Haassan. Our founder, P. Kasirajan, personally selects the best seeds for their aroma, color, and quality.

Roasting

Our founder believes that roasting is the most important step for making good coffee powder. We roast our coffee beans daily based on orders using a traditional manual roasting machine. We are proud to say that for the past 21 years, since we started Saravana Coffee, our founder is the only coffee roaster and he does not let anyone else roast. To provide a good taste to our customers, we deep roast our coffee beans. Deep roasting may reduce profit, but it enhances the flavor, color, and strength of the coffee.

Grinding

We start grinding only when we receive an order. We do not stock coffee powders. If you visit our store, we grind the coffee in front of you when you place an order. This is our specialty. For online orders, we also start grinding after receiving the order.

Mixing

Our trademark mixing is 90% coffee + 10% chicory. It is good for health and has a strong and rich flavor. But, we also provide 100% coffee, 80% coffee + 20% chicory, and 70% coffee + 30% chicory if the customer requests. We recommend 90% coffee + 10% chicory for the best experience.

Packing

We pack our coffee in 250g packets only. We believe that packing in 250g packets helps retain the coffee aroma. That means if you order 1kg, you will receive 4 packets of 250g each
